Our Final Post on Substack
When your newsletter becomes a social network, it's time to pack your bags.
Hi, Y’all!
We wanted to let you know about an important change to how we'll be sending out our newsletter from now on. This will be our last newsletter using the Substack platform. Moving forward, our newsletters will be sent using Beehiiv, and you can subscribe by going here:
https://weopenatsix.beehiiv.com/
If you are already subscribed to this newsletter, don't worry - your email has been transferred and you don't need to do anything. However, if you are reading this after the date of this newsletter, you will need to follow the link above to subscribe to the newsletter at its new home.
We absolutely love being able to talk directly to you, the beautiful people, through this newsletter. It's a vital connection for us. The platform we've been using to send out these letters, Substack, has recently implemented a "follow" feature which we feel undermines the core purpose of a newsletter. The whole point is to be able to communicate with our fans directly, without having to go through a third party. With the introduction of the follow feature, Substack has essentially made itself an unnecessary middleman.
As independent producers, it's crucial for us to take advantage of open protocols like email and RSS that aren't dependent on or controlled by a third party. These open systems are essential to our survival and ability to reach our audience without interference.
We want to be clear - we like Substack's features and appreciate that their platform offers a lot of functionality. However, we were specifically looking for a newsletter system. With its shift towards a follow feature, Substack has transitioned from an open newsletter platform to a closed social network. And that's simply not what we need.
We want to sincerely thank all of you for subscribing to this newsletter and for listening to Midnight Burger. Your support means the world to us. We hope you're as excited as we are for the Season 4 premiere on April 16th!
Thank you again, and we look forward to connecting with you in the future at our newsletter's new home.
With gratitude,
The Midnight Burger Team
